Antibacterial Effectiveness Of Cakalang Bone Extract (Katsuwonus Pelamis) Against Streptococcus Mutans And Porphyromonas Gingivalis Bacteria
Background: Periodontal disease and dental caries are two common dental and oral diseases in Indonesia. One of the bacteria that causes periodontal disease is the bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis and the cause of dental caries is the bacterium Streptococcus mutans. Subgingival plaque often contains anaerobic gram-negative bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis. Streptococcus mutans bacteria on the tooth surface can induce demineralization which if it continues can lead to remineralization and caries. The vast sea waters contain various types of fish, one of which is Cakalang tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis). One form of waste in the fish processing industry is fish bones. Cakalang fish bones have several contents including the highest calcium content. Fish bones have a natural source in them, namely calcium which can produce around 60-70% hydroxyapatite which is often used for tooth remineralization. Objective of the study: To determine the antibacterial effectiveness of Cakalang bone (Katsuwonus pelamis) against Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria. Method: Using a laboratory experimental method in the form of a Post Test Only Control Design, the researchers took samples using the Random Sampling technique with 5 treatments and 5 repetitions. Statistical test using One Way Anova. Results: This study shows that the diameter of the zone of inhibition of Streptococcus mutans bone extract of Cakalang tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) at 5% concentration was 8.63 ± 0.24, 10% concentration was 9.28 ± 0.12 mm, 15% concentration was 11 .05±0, 95 mm and based on statistical tests obtained a significant value of P
